Wow...the season's almost done. My calender says that there's only 2 weeks left. It also says that the Sens have 3 games this week starting with the tail-end of their South Eastern road trip. On Tuesday they'll face Tampa Bay, Thursday they're in "Florida" to face the Panthers and finally they return home to play the Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada. Make sure that you catch as many games as you can over the next fortnight, because if you're like me you spend the summer jonesing for the exhibition games to start up.

Here's how this week is shaping up...

FANTASY FOCUS

You can do it, Svatos! You can do it, Svatos! Help each other out: that'll be our mottos! Marek Svatos broke out of his funk in a Sens jersey over the past 4 games tallying 3 goals. He's still probably not the reliable offensive contributor you're looking for as your fantasy team enters the playoffs, but he did replace Bobby Butler on the Sens top line for parts of the last 2 games.

↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A. Erik Condra has also picked up his game over the past 5, notching 4 points (2+2) over that span. He's beginning to look more consistent on a regular basis so cross your fingers that he can continue to produce offense at the same clip for the rest of this year.

The Sens are winning games lately...and doing so fairly consistently. Last week they went 2-1-0 and beat two very good teams in New Jersey and Tampa Bay. The Lightning game was especially encouraging as they battled back scoring 3 straight including Spezza's game winner in overtime. Four games on the schedule for this week as the Sens hit the road to play the Hurricanes and Rangers before returning home to face the Capitals on Friday. The week ends with a matinee tilt against the Thrashers on Sunday.

FANTASY FOCUS

Curtis McElhinney is now 3-1 in his last 3 starts giving up just 6 goals in his 4 appearances. With Craig Anderson still sidelined (but re-signed...booyah!), McElhinney will see the bulk of the starts for the foreseeable future so if you're in need of a goalie late in the season, he's not a bad option at all.

Erik Karlsson has gone "beast mode" the past few weeks and now has 8 points (3+5) in his last 7 games. Spezza is following a similar trend notching 9 (4+5) over those same 7 games. They each have tallied 3 powerplay points during that span.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHome trip! After a week away from Scotiabank Place the Sens are back for a 3 game home stand this week as they welcome the Penguins, Devils and Lightning. A familiar face will be lined up against the Sens on Tuesday when the Pens come to town as Alexei Kovalev returns to Ottawa after being dealt to the Pens at the trade deadline. Both New Jersey and Tampa Bay suffered 2-1 defeats at the hands of the Sens last week and are looking to extract some revenge when they come to town on Thursday and Saturday respectively.

FANTASY FOCUS

Jason Spezza has had "beast mode" enabled for the past few weeks and it culminated into a 4 point (2+2) performance this past Sunday against the Sabres. He now has 17 points in his last 14 games and has really gelled with Binghamton callups Bobby Butler, Eric Condra and Colin Greening. The lines get shuffled throughout the game, but Spezza has really remained the consistent offensive factor for the Sens.

Curtis McElhinney has seen sometime in nets for the Sens over the past few games and while he looked sharp in a 2-1 win over his sort of former team Tampa Bay, he's not on the same level as Craig Anderson in terms of fantasy value. Anderson had an off game in Buffalo on Sunday but prior to that he had been lights out. Expect small blips like this from him as he has a fairly young team playing in front of him.

WEB TIP OF THE WEEK

We've noticed that our fans are talking about our prospects and the upcoming draft a lot more given the youth movement that is currently going on in Ottawa. So we thought we'd try and help. RRRRRRRRRoad trip! The Sens are hitting the road like crazy this week as they'll play 4 games in the next 7 days all away from SBP. They kick off the trip in New Jersey on Tuesday against a red hot Devils team before back-to-back games in the Sunshine State versus the Panthers and Lighting on Thursday and Friday respectively. They cap the week off against the Sabres in Buffalo on Sunday.

FANTASY FOCUS

I'm not sure that I need to keep talking about how great Craig Anderson has been...but I'm going to do it again anyways. He went 1-2 last week but that included a 1-0 loss to the Bruins. Anderson was lights out against the Thrashers as well stopping 42 of 43. He's allowed only 11 goals in 7 starts for the Sens. He'd be a great late season waiver claim if he's still kicking around your league.

Jason Spezza had a very productive month of February notching 12 points (3-9-12) in 10 games played. He's really found some nice chemistry with Bobby Butler on the top line and anytime a playmaker and sniper are on the same page...look out. It's reminiscent of when Spezza played on a line with that other guy? What's his name? He scored a bunch of goals but isn't around anymore? Bah...can't be that important.

Winners of 3 of their last 4, it looks like the team is giving us a glimpse of a bright future. Young players like Bobby Butler and Erik Condra have started to fill the net while newest Senator Craig Anderson has been stellar between the pipes. There's legitimately a lot to get excited about with the Sens moving forward and you've got 3 opportunities to see them in action this week including home games against the Bruins and Rangers with a road trip to Atlanta sandwiched in between.

FANTASY FOCUS

There are some interesting players that have had some productive games recently for the Sens and it could be an indication of chemistry forming and opportunities being given. Erik Condra potted 2 goals (including his first career NHL goal) against the Flyers this past Saturday, giving him 3 points over the last 2 games. Ryan Shannon has also been showing up on the scoresheet over the past few games and has notched 4 points (1+3) in his last 3 games.

Craig Anderson has continued his steady play and is looking like more and more of a reliable play in most fantasy leagues. He's currently 3-1 as a Senator with a 1.23 GAA and a 0.960 save percentage with 1 shutout. He's worth a claim if he's still available in your league.

So how about Craig Anderson? Man...that's how you make a debut. I'm sure he'll see some more time during the Sens three games this week, which kicks off with a home game on Wednesday against the Panthers, a trip to Buffalo on Friday before coming back to host the Eastern Conference leading Flyers on Saturday. But before any of that goes down, Team Alfie and Team Phillips have some work to do during Sens Skills today (February 21st).

FANTASY FOCUS

Let's start with the obvious, Craig Anderson. The newest Sen could really have a big impact in rotisserie leagues for the rest of this season if he plays like he did on Saturday against the Leafs. The Sens are still a young team however, so wins could be hard to come by, but I'd expect him GAA and Save % to be very respectible behind a Sens defense that is starting to gel.

After scoring his first NHL goal and point just over a week ago, Bobby Butler has found some real chemistry with Jason Spezza and has 5 points (3-2-5) over his last 5 games, with 3 of those coming on the man advantage. Look for him to continue to see time on the top line with Spezza and Michalek as long as he keeps produceing at this clip.

WEB TIP OF THE WEEK

With Ottawa acquiring so many draft picks, people have already started to look towards this summer's entry draft in Minnesota. Well, there's a neat little tool that allows you to travel back and see every draft pick the Sens have every made. Here's the link. Happy Valentine's Day! Another up and down week, but the Sens definitely showed signs of life against the Oilers this past Saturday afternoon. The Mike Fisher trade indicates that the team will be looking to get younger and I'd anticipate that we'll see more call-ups from Bingo as the season winds down, so keep your eyes peeled on the young talent getting looks. Three games this week as the Sens play host to the Isles and Bruins before meeting up with the Leafs in Toronto this Saturday for Hockey Night in Canada. While both teams have struggled at times this season, there's nothing quite like the Battle of Ontario.

FANTASY FOCUS

Chris Campoli has really busted out in the past 5 games recording 6 points (2-4-6) and posting a +5 rating, which is pretty impressive given the fact that the Sens went 1-4 over that stretch. Campoli has registered 7 points in his last 8 games, equaling his point total for the first 46 games of the season.

So far in February, Alexi Kovalev has 5 goals in just 6 games played which equals his goal production over the months of November, December and January combined. Kovy has 13 goals and 26 points on the year.

Bobby Butler notched his first NHL goal, assist and multi-point effort all in the same game this past Saturday against Edmonton. He's seen top on the Sens top line and on the powerplay recently and if he's able to continue to produce offense, he should stick for the remainder of the season. Don't be too worried about his yo-yoing between Binghamton and Ottawa, this appears to just be a salary cap strategy.

WEB TIP OF THE WEEK

It's official...I love Sens Skills. It's the one event where you get to see the players lace'em up and have a blast simply for the enjoyment of the fans and their families. If you've never been, you should definitely check it out and if you're a Sens Skills veteran, you know exactly why you should come back again this year. We caught a glimpse of what Erik Karlsson can do during SuperSkills, but I know I wanted to see him in several of the other events...especially the Hardest Shot. Guy's got a cannon. So don't miss it, it's a great time and benefits a lot of great organizations. Tickets start at just $8, here's the link.

Three games on the schedule for this week and if you were hoping that things might ease up a bit for the Sens...they aren't. Anaheim is coming to town on Tuesday and they've been on fire recently winning 7 of their last 10. The ageless Teemu Selanne is fresh off of registering his 1300th NHL point last week and Ducks' goalie Jonas Hiller has just 1 loss in his last 7 starts. On Thursday, the Sens travel to Philly to face-off against the Eastern Conference's best team. Like the Ducks, the Flyers have also won 7 of their last 10 games. The Sens week concludes on Friday when they play host to Montreal. The Canadiens have cooled off slightly since their hot start but still hold a 3-1 record against the Sens this season.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

It was a busy past 7 days for Bingo as they squeezed 4 games into last week. This past Tuesday they wrecked Portland 5-2, Corey Locke notched 4 points (2-2) and Robin Lehner stopped 25 of 27 as each of them earned a call-up to the big club shortly after. It was really a culmination for the two of them as they've played some great hockey as of late. This got a little hairy for the next two games, which the B-Sens dropped 3-2 and 4-3 to Albany and Manchester respectively. Bobby Buter and Erik Condra stepped up to help replace Locke's offense as each tallied a goal over the course of both losses but it was noticeably difficult for Bingo to replace the AHL's leading scorer. The week ended on a positive however as Ryan Keller buried a powerplay goal to lead Binghamton past Hersey 2-1 this past Sunday. Barry Brust turned aside 29 of 30 but also took some late penalties which Bingo was able to kill off. Andrew Sweetland, who signed his Professional Try-out just hours before making his debut for the B-Sens, buried on his very first shift. Sweetland is the ECHL's Elimira Jackals leading goal scorer.

FANTASY FOCUS

I officially, really miss Jason Spezza. During his absence the Sens have gone 1-7-2 and have only 2 powerplay goals in 28 attempts over that span. Spezza is expected to miss about another 10 games but we'll keep tabs on him over the next few weeks to give you a heads up on when you should activate him in your pool.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

I meant to do this last week but I was on the road in Buffalo for the World Juniors, so I'd like to look back on the season thus far in Bingo. Let's call it "First half look back - Bingo addition". Now while the name seems pretty lame, the Binghamton Senators have really had some bright spots this year, let's start from the net out.

Barry Brust was originally signed to be the third goalie behind Mike Brodeur and Robin Lehner but when Brodeur suffered a concussion on opening night, Brust began to receive regular starts and has since seen action in 27 games this season posting a record of 13-12-1 with 4 shutout and a Goals Against Average of 2.82 and Save Percentage of 0.919. He has single-handedly keep the B-Sens in games this season, largely because he faces an AHL high 32.7 shots against per game. Robin Lehner has also looked good in his limited starts this season and half of his wins so far have been shutouts (4-5-1). He also showed some real flashes of brilliance at the most recent World Juniors for Sweden and while he may not be ready to make the jump full-time to the NHL next season, he's showing why he is considered one of the top rated goaltending prospects. Keep an eye on him during the second half of the season.

On defense, Andre Benoit is on pace for his best professional season yet and currently leads the B-Sens defenseman in points with 28. He's been very good in both ends this year and has become one of the leaders of the team. Patrick Wiercioch continues to struggle during his rookie season with Binghamton but while his offensive stats aren't where he'd like them to be he has begun to improve a lot on his defensive play. Playing against bigger and better competition in the AHL (versus the NCAA) will benefit him in the long run but may require some patience from fans while he continues to develop.

Corey Locke was brought in to add some veteran scoring to the lineup and he's doing what he's done everywhere else...put up points in bunches. Locke leads the AHL in points and assists. He's shown some real chemistry with Colin Greening and Bobby Butler and as a result they're both having solid offensive rookie seasons along side Locke. Erik Condra has really come into his own this season and has had several lengthy point streaks. Paired with Jim O'Brien for the bulk of the season, the two have combined to lead Bingo in +/- (Condra is a +18 and O'Brien is a +14). While he may have cooled off a little bit recently, Bobby Butler continues to lead the team in goal scoring with 18.

Nearing the halfway point of the season, Binghamton sits 9th in the East and just 1 point back of a playoff spot. Keep checking back in these blogs to get weekly updates as to what's happening down in the farm.

FANTASY FOCUS

Alfredsson recently broke out of his mini scoring slump by dropping 4 points in 3 games before not cracking the scoresheet against Tampa this past Saturday. That's kind of how his season has gone this year with stretches of slumps and streaks. Fun fact: Alfie has had 4 points streaks of 3 or more games this season and during those streaks (13 GP) he's put up 18 points. Recently, he's either hot or cold it seems. He broke a 10 game pointless streak with a 3 game goal scoring streak which was followed up by 4 game pointless streak and answered with a 3 game point streak. If you can spot the trends, then Alfie can still be a valuable piece to your fantasy team this season, even while he may appear to be struggling.

While the Sens went 1-1-2 last week, they showed they could hang with some of the leagues best up-and-coming teams. The schedule gets a little lighter this week thanks to the holidays but the level of opponent doesn't ease up at all. On Thursday, the Sens visit Nashville where they'll face one of the league's hottest teams right now. The Preds have gone 8-1-1 in their last 10. Pittsburgh heads into town on Sunday and Boxing Day may actually be a fitting time for the Penguins to visit Ottawa as these two have a recent history of first round playoff battles. The Pens are fresh off their 12 game winning streak (although they've dropped their last 2) and Sidney Crosby has been ablaze the past month and a half and currently leads the league in points (54) and goals (26). Don't miss your chance to see your Ottawa Senators matched up with some of the league's best this week.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

Some news to note out of Bingo this week, Bobby Butler has been returned to Binghamton and goalie Mike Brodeur has been recalled.

The B-Sens kicked things off with a bang on Friday as they handed Syracuse a 7-0 beating. Robin Lehner was magic between the pipes and turned away all 25 Crunch shots for his second shutout of the year. That's great news if you're a Swedish hockey fan as Lehner is expected to lead a very defensive minded U-20 in Buffalo this year for the World Junior Hockey Championship. Jim O'Brien continued his productive sophmore season potting a goal and two helpers in the win. On Saturday the B-Sens hosted a red hot Charlotte team that's only lost 3 of their last 15 games. Things stayed more of the same for the checkers as they handed Binghamton a 4-2 defeat. Colin Greening buried both Bingo goals.

The weeked ended with a trip upstate to Rochester where the B-Sens held on for a 3-2 win. Again, Robin Lehner looked solid in the win. Binghamton currently sits 10th in the East just 2 points back of a playoff spot.

FANTASY FOCUS

Erik Karlsson has continued his strong play as of late and currently has 8 points (2+6) in his last 8 games. If he's available in your league, now would be the time to snatch him up. With Pascal Leclaire currently listed as Day-to-Day, expect Brian Elliot to get a string of starts and although fan favourite Mike Brodeur has been recalled to back up Elliott, I wouldn't expect him to see much action as he's been limited in action this season after suffering a concussion in Binghampton's opener this year. He's only been in 4 games this season split between the AHL and ECHL so he could be a tad rusty.

After going goalless in almost a month, Daniel Alfredsson put a goal in 3 games straight last week.

After a rare weekend off the Sens gear up for another busy week as they squeeze 4 games into the next 7 days. It all kicks off Monday night in Ottawa as the Sens host an improved Thrashers team who currently sit 8th in the East. Then the Sens hit the road for back-to-back games against two Northwest division teams as they visit Minnesota and Colorado this Thursday and Friday respectively. The week finishes with a Sunday night home game as the Sens welcome Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

Some news to note out of Bingo this week, Bobby Butler has been returned after a short, 4 game stint with the big club that saw him unable to crack the score sheet and Robin Lehner has been loaned to Sweden’s national junior team for the 2011 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship set to take place in Buffalo. It should be a great opportunity for him to backstop a very talented Sweden team this year.

As for the B-Sens, they had a busy weekend that kicked off with a 5-0 drubbing against Albany Friday night in Binghamton, the same night that the Sens defeated New Jersey. Barry Brust did what Barry Brust does and looked very sharp in earning his 3rd shutout of the season and the team collectively made up for missing Butler's scoring by having 5 different players light the lamp.

Saturday night the B-Sens peppered 48 shots on goal but Jacob Markstrom showed why he's regarded as one of the top goaltender prospects in the game today as he kept Rochester in the game all night. The Americans eventually closed things out in a shootout earning a 4-3 win in the first half of a home and home series with Bingo. The next night had a similar ending but with different results as Binghamton rallied with 2 goals in the last 3 minutes to force an extra frame where once again, nothing would be decided. The shootout would be more favorable this time around as both Andre Benoit and Kaspars Daugavins buried to give the B-Sens the victory. Corey Locke had two goals in the game and Erik Condra notched four points (1+3).

FANTASY FOCUS

After scoring his first goal of the season on November 29th against the Oilers, Nick Foligno has really started to regain the form he showed this past preseason. He put up three point (1+2) in the Sens 3 games last week and has been playing great at both ends of the ice. He's also starting to develop some chemistry with Mike Fisher.

After a mini slump, Erik Karlsson has 4 points in his last 3 games giving him 16 points on the season, tied for 16th among defenseman scoring.

This year has been a real roller coaster but if trends continue, the Sens are due for an upswing. After losing 6 of their first 8 games the Sens went on a tear winning 7 of their next 9. Most recently, they dropped 8 of their last 10. My math doesn't allows make sense but I can see a pattern developing. The Sens are now looking to build off their 3-1 win over the Rangers and hopefully string together wins like they've done in the past.

There are only 3 games on tap for this week and for the first time in forever the team gets a weekend off. On Tuesday the Sens travel to Montreal where they're looking to even up the season series with the Habs (1-2) then they've got back to back home games against two Atlantic division team when the rematch the Rangers on Thursday then host the Devils on Friday.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

While it was a fairly light week for the B-Sens on the schedule with only two games, the quality of their opponents more than made up for it. Bingo hit the road for away games at first place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and reigning Calder Cup champions Hershey this past weekend and were unable to come away with any points.

The Baby Pens continued to roll out-shooting the B-Sens 29-14 on route to a 4-2 win. Bobby Butler potted his 15th of the season and earned the games second star before a call-up to the big club. Saturday in Hershey didn't get much better as the Bears blanked the B-Sens 4-0. Robin Lehner looked solid in the loss stopping 34 of 38 shots. Game note: former Sens defenseman Lawrence Nycholat was in the lineup for Hersey and fought now Senator Bobby Butler midway through the 3rd period of Saturday's game.

FANTASY FOCUS

Chris Kelly may have doubled his goal production Sunday against the Rangers with his first career NHL hat trick, but he isn't really a solid fantasy option if you're expecting any sort of offensive consistency. Kelly has put together small burst of production but they are too few and far between for any relevance in fantasy hockey. He's the type of player that is worth much more in real life than in hockey pools and until they start giving out fantasy points for penalty killing and defensive responsibility, his recent 3 goal performance shouldn't put him on your radar.

While Leclaire's record isn't much to talk about, his play has been very good at times this season. In his 11 games played this season Leclaire hasn't received much in the way of goal support as the team in front of him has only been able to muster up 16 goals over that span. His time share with Brian Elliott will always hurt his fantasy value, but he's been keeping the Sens in games recently.

After splitting last week's games 2-2 the Sens are looking to build on the licking they laid on the Leafs this past Saturday with a string of home games before capping off the week with a trip to Madison Square Garden for a rare Sunday afternoon start. The Sens play host to a young Oilers squad on Monday who have struggled lately dropping 8 of their last 10 games and currently sit last in the Western conference. They aren't an opponent the Sens can take lightly however as they are loaded with some of the best prospects in the game and can pack a punch offensively.

And then Thursday...who's coming back into town again on Thursday? Oh right. If for some crazy reason you don't have your tickets to this game yet shove everyone between you and the nearest computer to the floor and order them promptly. You aren't going to want to miss the return of Dany Heatley. I have a funny feeling it might get loud. Oh...and the rest of the Sharks are supposed to be playing that night as well.

This weekend features a few key Eastern Conference match-ups for the Sens as they host the Sabres on Saturday before the aforementioned game in New York against the Rangers on Sunday. Both of these teams are right in the mix with the Sens and are all within an 8 point range in the East standings. A few wins now could really pay some dividends when things get tight in March and April. Playoff implications in early December? That's right...I went there.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

The B-Sens had 3 games last week and started off with a bang as they avenged a loss from the previous week against the AHL leading WBS Penguins on Thursday at home with a 5-2 win. Erik Condra, Jim O'Brien and Derek Smith all recorded 3 point games with each registering a goal and two assists in the victory. Barry Brust continued his stellar play as of late and turned aside 52 of 54 shots.

Friday featured the second leg of a double header with the Hamilton Bulldogs that saw each teams host a game in their NHL affiliates building. The Bulldogs won the first affair 4 weeks ago by a score of 5-2 at the Bell Centre and were victorious once again this past Friday at Scotiabank place. It was a real defensive battle with the lone goal coming midway through the third period off the stick of Alexander Avtsin. Robin Lehner started in goal for the B-Sens and had a strong showing stopping 17 of 18 shots. Former Sens captain Randy Cunneyworth was behind the bench for the Bulldogs.

Bingo ended the week with a trip to Albany to play the Devils. Surrendering 3 goals in the opening period proved too big a deficit to overcome as the B-Sens dropped a close one 4-3. Colin Greening, Zack Smith and Jim O'Brien all scored in the loss.

FANTASY FOCUS

Last week we looked at some unheralded stats and this week we'll take a look at some Sens prospects that could become valuable impact fantasy players in the near future.

Bobby Butler has been a scoring machine this season for Bingo and currently sits second in the AHL in goals with 14. Should the Sens be looking to add a little "umph" to their offense this season, expect Butler to be the first one called up.

After a disappointing rookie season in the AHL last year many people had begun to write former first round pick Jim O'Brien off but he's really found his game this season and is showing signs of maturing offensively. O'Brien has already surpassed his totals from last year in 53 fewer games and sits second on the team in goals with 10 behind Butler.

Robin Lehner hasn't gotten off to the start many would've liked, but his play has been much better than his stats would indicate. In only 6 starts this season, Lehner's save percentage sits at a respectable 0.900 and his lone win on the season was a 33 save shutout gem against Syracuse on November 7th. Lehner has all the tools to earn the starting spot for the Sens someday, but he will need to develop the finer points his game in Bingo for a few season.

Looking outside of the AHL, David Rundblad is showing why the organization happily moved their most recent first round pick to acquire him. Originally on the Sens radar in 2009, Rundblad has exploded offensively and currently leads all defensemen in points in the SEL with 19. Look for him to come over to North America in 2011.

Staying in Sweden, Marcus Sorensen is developing rapidly and sits tied for second in scoring in the J20 SuperElit with 23 points in 16 games. His recent strong play has earned him consideration for Team Sweden in the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship.

In the NCAA, Louie Caporusso's senior year at Michigan is looking a lot like his previous years there...dominant offensively. Caporusso currently sits second in scoring for the Wolverines with 14 points in 16 games.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

It was a busy week for the B-Sens as well as they squeezed 4 games into 5 days. Bingo starting off by trouncing Syracuse in a rare Wednesday tilt 4-0. Barry Brust recorded his second shutout of the year and Bobby Butler impressed once again burying the game’s opening goal and recording a +3 ratings in the win. That wouldn’t be the last goal Butler would score last week as he potted his 14th of the season only 2 days later for the game winner against Hersey on Friday. Brust was solid again stopping 42 of 44 shots and both Roman Wick (1 + 1) and Andre Benoit (0 + 2) had multipoint efforts.

A familiar face came back to haunt the B-Sens as former Ottawa Senator Wade Redden helped lead the Hartford Wolf Pack to a 3-2 overtime win registering 2 assists, both on the powerplay and the second coming on the game winner. Brust continued his strong play turning aside 40 shots in the defeat. The toughest test of the week came on Sunday in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as the B-Sens matched up against the first place (14-3-0) Penguins. The game turned into a defensive battle as each team focused on shutting down the opposing team’s top snipers and secondary scoring earned the Baby Pens a 2-1 win.

This upcoming week sees the B-Sens play a home game in Ottawa Friday night against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Bingo is looking to return the favor after the Bulldogs took the win in their big club’s building at the beginning of the month. There are still tickets available so don’t miss your chance to see some of the Sens top prospect live.

FANTASY FOCUS

There really wasn’t a lot of good things for the Sens last week fantasy-wise. So let’s look at some of the secondary stats that could be helpful in larger roto-type leagues. While not an offensively reliable fantasy option, Matt Carkner leads the Sens with a +4 rating and has accumulated 53 penalty minutes good for second on the team behind Chris Neil (61) and twelfth in the league.

Filip Kuba returned to the lineup last week and many people wondered where he’d fit in on a team that was really clicking on special teams. Through 4 games Kuba is averaging just under 2 minutes of powerplay ice-time which ranks him third among defenseman on the roster so as he gets back into his rhythm he should look to earn that coveted third spot behind Gonchar and Karlsson.

Daniel Alfredsson leads the team with 8 goals which really isn’t that big of a surprise. What is worth noting is that he also leads the team by a wide margin in shooting percent (19%) ahead of Sergei Gonchar (12.5%) and Milan Michalek (12.1%) and ranks him 25th in the league overall.

Finally, the Sens three top faceoff men are all averaging over 50% with Jason Spezza leading the way with a 55.7% success rate which ranks him 21st in the NHL.

Road trip! The Sens are in the midst of one of their longest trips away from SBP this season that culminates with a game against the red hot St Louis Blues (7-2-1 in their last 10) on Friday. It doesn't get much easier at the beginning of the week either as the Sens are in Philadelphia Monday night to face the Flyers who currently sit second in the Eastern Conference. Sandwiched between those games is a trip to Raleigh to play the Hurricanes on Wednesday night. The Sens are playing their best hockey of this early season going 5-1 in November so far and are looking to keep that momentum going after a huge shutout win in Boston this past Saturday.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

It was a bit of a rough week for the B-Sens as they dropped 3 of 4 and uncharacteristically gave up a lot of goals in the process. The week started off with a Wednesday 6-4 loss to the Amerks at home. Erik Condra and Jim O’Brien each chipped in with a goal and an assist in the defeat.

The lone bright spot was a big 5-1 win over the powerhouse Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins handing them just their 2nd loss of the season this past Friday. Bobby Butler continued his hot play burying 2 goals in that game and Barry Brust stopped 29 of 30 for his team leading 5th win of the season.

The week ended with consecutive losses to the Marlies (4-3) and Bears (8-3).

FANTASY FOCUS

Brian Elliott has really been heating up lately and is currently on a personal 5 game winning streak and has won 7 of his last 8 starts. He sits tied for 3rd in the league for wins with 9 and is coming off arguably his best game of the year this past Saturday with a shutout win over the Bruins. He’s really entrenched himself as the starter for the Sens and the team really seems to respond when he’s in nets. Look for him to carry the bulk of the Sens goalie work over the next few months.

After starting slow Peter Regin has found his rhythm and has 6 points in his last 6 games and has shown some real chemistry with Alexei Kovalev and Jason Spezza. He also finally got the monkey off his back and buried his first goal of the season last week against Vancouver.

More weeks should be like last week. The snow melts, we get and extra hour of sleep and the Sens rattle off 3 big wins including road victories in Toronto and Montreal. Not too shabby. There's another 3 games on tap this week starting with homes games against Atlanta and Vancouver before the Sens start a 4-game road trip beginning in Boston on Saturday. The Sens currently sit in 7th spot in the East (tied with 5 times with 15 points) and are just 2 points back of the division leading Canadiens. With another strong week the Sens could see themselves atop the Northeast.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

While this weekend didn't start out on the right foot, it ended with a bang (or two). The B-Sens were in Ottawa this past Thursday to take in the Sens/Isles game before leaving for Montreal the next day where they'd play the Canadiens AHL affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs at the Bell Centre. Bingo dropped that game in close fashion 5-2 with the Bulldogs burying two into an empty net. Robin Lehner looked strong in the loss stopping 34 of 37 shots.

On Saturday the B-Sens hosted Adirondack and promptly lit them up for 7 goals in a 7-3 victory on home ice. Barry Brust continued his strong play giving up only 3 goals on 40 shots while the line of Bobby Butler, Colin Greening and Corey Locke combined for 3 goals, 7 assists and a +8 rating in Binghampton's best offensive showing of the season.

The B-Sens followed that effort up with an even more impressive win the next night as Robin Lehner blanked Syracuse in a 5-0 win. Bobby Butler continued his dynamic offensive play with a hat trick against the Crunch giving him 9 goals on the year while Corey Locke was in on everyone of Butler's tallies. Former first-round pick Jim O'Brien chipped in with 2 goals of his own.

FANTASY FOCUS

In the Sens 3 games last week, defensemen Sergei Gonchar and Erik Karlsson combined for 8 points, 4 of which came on the powerplay. They are starting to look much more comfortable running the man-advantage and are building some chemistry together as everyone thought they would when Gonchar was signed this summer.

Jason Spezza looks to be back and 100% healthy as he lit up the New York Islanders this past Thursday. One assist came on a David Hale goal, his first as a Senator, but I wouldn't expect much offense out of Hale moving forward. Hale set an NHL record for the most games played before scoring a goal in the NHL at 231 games.

With snow on the ground and my belly full of swiped Halloween candy from my kids, we can say farewell to October and the first month of the season. November kicks off with a big first week that could move the Sens into a top 8 spot in the East with 3 key conference match-ups. The Sens will head down the 401 on Tuesday where they'll meet a Leafs team that has cooled off over the past two weeks. After starting the season 4-0 the Leafs have dropped 5 of their last 6 and have been shutout in their last two games against the Bruins and Rangers. On Thursday, the Sens return home to play the New York Islanders who have lost their last 4 contests in another Metro Family Game before traveling to Montreal to play the conference and division leading Canadiens on Hockey Night in Canada.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

The B-Sens welcomed a struggling Charlotte team for two games this past weekend where each team walked away with a win. Binghampton pounded 49 shots on goal Friday night with last coming off Bobby Butler's stick on the powerplay in overtime to end it. Just minutes before that the Checkers tied it up with just 16 seconds left in the third but the B-Sens showed their resiliency and finished the game before the shootout. The following night was very similar but with a different outcome. Bobby Butler tied the game early into the third and once again overtime was needed, except this time Charlotte defenseman Casey Borer ended it with a goal on the Checkers 46th shot of the game. Both Justin Pogge and Barry Brust played great and faced 165 shots combined over the 2 game series.

This weekend features 3 games with the first, against their rivals from Hamilton, to be played at the Bell Centre in Montreal the night before the Sens and Canadiens play. Binghampton returns home for two games against the Phantoms and Crunch to finish out the weekend.

FANTASY FOCUS

The line of Alexei Kovalev, Peter Regin and Nick Foligno really started to click early last week before being broken up due to an injury to Milan Michalek. Although Regin and Foligno haven't scored yet this season, their play has dramatically improved since being paired with the Russian veteran and should continue to develop chemistry once the team is healthy again.

Daniel Alfredsson is once again leading the way offensively for the Sens which shouldn't really come as a surprise. Alfie leads the team in goals (6), assists (6, tied with Sergei Gonchar) and points (12).

WEB TIP OF THE WEEK

We're working harder this year to give you regular updates on all of the Sens prospects and one of the ways you can stay up to date is check out the weekly prospect updates that can be found under the main navigation, TEAM > Player Roster & Bios > Prospect Update. From Binghampton, to the CHL, to Europe, each prospects stats are compiled and organized so you can keep track of your favorite future Sens.

Until next week,

There's something to be said about sleeping in your own bed. The Sens are beginning a full week in Ottawa that features 3 games, none of which are back-to-back. Sergei Gonchar will play his 1,000th game On Tuesday against the Phoenix Coyotes and will be honored during a pre-game ceremony. Thursday the Florida Panthers are in town and it's another Metro Family Game and the Bruins visit on Saturday for this year's Canadian Forces Appreciation Night, which is always a blast. You may have noticed that this blog is a day late this week and that's because we've launched a new blogging tool (along with a new message board...more on that below) and we've been working hard to get it up and looking good. So I hope you enjoy the new look.

BINGO WEEKLY ROUNDUP

The B-Sens wrapped up a 4 game road trip this past weekend which saw them split games with Hartford and Wilkes-Barre Scranton, both turned into goaltending duels. Barry Brust posted a 28 save shutout and Erik Condra supplied to lone tally as Binghampton bested the Wolf Pack 1-0. While Saturday's game may not have been a victory, it was a great test for the B-Sens as they battled an undefeated Baby Pens squad for 65 minutes before losing in a shootout in the 8th round. Both goalies played out of their minds with Barry Brust and John Curry combining for 73 and just 2 goals against. Corey Locke scored the B-Sens only goal and Erik Condra extended his point streak to 3 games with an assist.

FANTASY FOCUS

Sergei Gonchar has started to turn things up and has 2 points in his last two games, both coming on the powerplay. He was brought in specifically to help improve the Sens powerplay and it looks like he's starting to find his groove on the man advantage.

Chris Neil has been racking up the PIMs this season and currently sits second in the league in that category. As always he reminds a good option in leagues that include penalties as he can often see time in the top 6 when the Sens are looking for a spark.

WEB TIP OF THE WEEK

As I mentioned earlier, we've launched a new message board and along with it new blogs and photo sharing tools as well. It took a lot of work to transfer over all the old content and while we are still working diligently to convert everything, we've already noticed a big improvement in the functionality. So go ahead, check it out and let me know what you think.

Until next week,
